Port Charlottetown is preparing for what will be the best cruise season to date in 2019, according to a statement.
An estimated 146,000 passengers and 63,000 crew are scheduled to arrive this season, which is set to kick off on May 01, 2019.
“Prince Edward Island has established itself as a key port of call in the Canada New England region, and we are continually working to enhance and improve the experience of our visiting passengers and crew,” said Mike Cochrane, CEO for Port Charlottetown. “With the continued growth of the industry, the current berth expansion project is going to be a welcome addition when accommodating growing port business.”
“Having one sector of tourism injecting this much money into the Island economy is a great addition,” added Corryn Clemence, Business Development Manager. “We have the ability to strengthen the tourism offerings by extending the season and allowing operators to hire additional staff, stay open longer and continue to develop new product that appeal to cruise traffic and other sectors of the tourism industry.”
Five vessels are set to make their inaugural calls, including the MSC Meraviglia, The Meraviglia is set to arrive in Charlottetown on October 12 carrying an estimated 4,500 passengers. The season will wrap up with a call from the Oceania Riviera on November 4.
