Major Port Upgrades Planned for Penang

Citing future demand, Penang Port announced it will widen its cruise berths and expand its terminal, with work expected to start in 2018. The port said it wants to be able to accommodate Oasis-class ships and other new tonnage.

In addition, the Malaysian government will offer incentives for ships calling in 2018, such as waiving the so-called consumption tax charged to cruise lines.
