In Messina, cruise port officials are working through the final design stages of a new cruise terminal, a spokesperson told Cruise Industry News.
Among the new callers making up a 400,000-passenger 2017 season include the MSC Meraviglia, which will visit 23 times, the Royal Princess, Norwegian Spirit and Celebrity Reflection.
Next year the port authority expects another 10 Celebrity calls from the Reflection, 12 from the Norwegian Spirit, nine from the Crown Princess, and 23 calls from the new MSC Seaview.
The port authority oversees both the Messina and Milazzo facilities. The latter can handle ships up to 220 meters in length and has 10 calls scheduled for 2017.
