Viking Cruises announced it will sail a new itinerary in the Arctic Circle during a peak period for aurora borealis sightings, according to a statement.
The Viking Sky will sail between London and Bergen starting in January 2019. The 13-day itinerary, called In Search of the Northern Lights, will visit seven destinations with overnights in Tromsø, Alta and Bergen, Norway.
“Our Nordic heritage is evident in all that we do, from our spirit of exploration to the serene, understated elegance of our ships,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises. “Scandinavia is Viking territory, and no other cruise line can show guests this part of the world like we can,”
The journey will include visiting Alta, which has frequent clear skies that make it ideal for viewing the aurora borealis, a visit to the Native Sami community of Máze for an authentic lunch, visiting the Arctic Cathedral in Tromsø, a visit to the Archaeological Museum and a panoramic tour of Bergen, which includes a stop at a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
