Oslo: Traffic Trending Up

  • July 11, 2017

This year Oslo marked a first time call from the Mein Schiff 6, and the Crystal Symphony is also set to use the port as a turnaround location.

“We are looking forward to 2018 when MSC will return to Oslo with the new Meaviglia, and Viking Cruises with the Viking Sky and Sun,” commented Francesca Bettinsoli, cruise project manager at Visit Oslo.

Total traffic for the year is up nicely with 101 calls and 198,000 passengers, compared to 82 calls in 2016.

Off-season visitors get a 60 percent quay discount, according to Bettinsoli, and fee reductions are available for brands calling six or more times in the peak season.

The city is one ready to grow its cruise profile, with four state-of-the-art berths available and the potential to build up winter calls.

Tourism officials are hoping a cruise line takes them up on a March call paired with the famous Holmenkollen Ski Festival.

Also new this year, ships calling at the Søndre Akershuskai will be able to discharge waste-water in the city’s sewer system.
