The cruise season in Copenhagen extends to the AIDAvita, which will conclude the summer season on October 22. Meanwhile, during this winter the port will host four Christmas sailings, all part of a blockbuster-level 330-call, 880,000-guest 2017.

On August 12 the port expects to smoothly handle six ships and over 17,000 guests, said Arnt Møller Pedersen, COO cruise and ferries for Copenhagen Malmo Port.

Pedersen is also trying to build off the shoulder and winter seasons, with a 50 percent discount for ship calls.

“We are developing new piers and facilities constantly,” Pedersen told  “We hope to get approval for a 10,000-square-meter terminal with two floors and two bridges, which will help handle the growing market for bigger ships coming to Copenhagen.”

Of those big ships, the port received 14 calls in 2016 and is forecasting 55 in 2017. Pedersen the new terminal should be ready by 2020.

“We are in the right geographical position,” he said. “We are close to the city and an international airport. We have good service in the port and a fantastic town, a nice area for the cruise lines to call.”
