Norwegian to Design 2019 Newbuild for China

Norwegian JoyNorwegian Cruise Line Holdings will design its 2019 newbuild for the Chinese market, according to President and CEO Frank del Rio, speaking on the company’s fourth quarter and full-year earnings call on Wednesday, Feb 22.

Del Rio said the ship will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2019, and would be designed for the Chinese market.

“As of this time Norwegian Joy’s occupancy based on signed full and partial ship charters … is significantly ahead of the Norwegian fleet,” said del Rio, of booking performance of the Joy for the second half of 2017, which arrives in Shanghai this summer.

The 2019 ship is the last of four Breakaway-plus class ships ordered from Meyer Werft. The ships are 4,000 passengers each and 164,600 tons.
