Fredericia, Denmark has announced the 2017 cruise season will be its biggest ever with eight calls expected, compared to four calls in 2016.

“With the prospect of more than 16,000 cruise passengers including crew members divided among eight cruise calls in 2017, Fredericia is well on its way to beat the towns own record in the number of cruise calls,” said a statement issued by Cruise Fredericia.

“We have a strategic focus on developing Fredericia as a destination in close cooperation with the Municipality of Fredericia and Visit Fredericia, and this close cooperation will also be further strengthened in the years to come,” said Nils Skeby, CEO of ADP A/S, which owns and operates the port.

The Mayor of Fredericia, Jacob Bjerregaard, is also excited about the positive development.

“The number of cruise calls to Fredericia creates value – not just for the city but also for Southern Denmark. With our central location, good berthing facilities at the port and not least Frederica’s unique history, there is great potential for further growth in the cruise area. This means that the City Council of Fredericia has decided to invest in and strengthen our tourism initiative in our 2017 budget,” he said. 

The 2017 cruise season kicks off on May 24 with the arrival of the Prinsendam.
