Wismar: ‘Small, But Nice’

The German city of Wismar on the Baltic has reported eight cruise calls for the 2016 season, which ends in December, welcoming a total of 4,300 cruise passengers, according to the Columbus Cruise Center Bremerhaven and Wismar.

Promising a “gemütlich” (cozy family-style) atmosphere and none of the hustle-bustle of bigger cities, passengers can wander leisurely through the old town center and find off-the-beaten path cafes and the typical Hanseatic-gabled houses, built with red bricks from the era. All the sites are within easy walking distance, and Wismar was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2002.

Wismar’s slogan is “small, but nice.”

The cruise season concludes in December with a call by the Black Watch in time for the Christmas market.

For 2018, 11 ships are expected to call, bringing some 10,000 passengers. The Columbus Cruise Center said that passengers will received small gifts and a farewell ceremony.
