Executives from Genting Hong Kong and Meyer Werft celebrated the laying of the keel of Genting Dream, Dream Cruises’ new ship, at a special commemoration held at Meyer Werft held on Thursday, December 3.
A significant milestone in a vessel’s timeline, this traditional ceremony mark’s the formal recognition of the start of a new ship’s construction.
“We are extremely excited to officially lay the first section of Dream Cruises’ new ship, Genting Dream,” said, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Genting Hong Kong. “Genting Dream will set new standards at every level – from its quality construction and detailed design, to best in class service and a diversity of entertainment, dining, leisure and recreation options, for a truly unforgettable guest experience.”
During the official ceremony, block number 2, one of 92 blocks that will eventually complete the 151,000 ton ship was lifted into the building dock to officially start the block assembly for Genting Dream. In keeping with tradition, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay laid the customary “lucky coin” as a symbol of good fortune under the keel block of the new vessel to bless the ship.
