Fire on Carnival Liberty Docked in St. Thomas

Carnival Cruise Line has posted the following statement on an earlier fire on the Carnival Liberty while she was docked in St. Thomas:

Earlier today, while the Carnival Liberty was docked in St. Thomas, there was a fire in the ship’s engine room. There were no reported injuries to guests or crew. All guests are safely ashore in St. Thomas where they have been receiving assistance from Carnival personnel. The fire has been extinguished by the ship’s automated suppression system and crew have confirmed the fire is out. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

At this time, we are in the process of offering guests the opportunity to wait at a reception area in a nearby hotel for their comfort. Refreshments will be provided as guests wait to reboard the ship. We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience and we look forward to welcoming them back onboard later this evening. The ship is expected to sail no earlier than 8:00 PM.
