Hyde Marine Continues Ballast Water Webinar Series

  • May 14, 2014

Hyde Marine, Inc will continue its free, multi-part webinar series developed to educate the maritime industry about proper compliance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Convention and United States Coast Guard (USCG) ballast water treatment regulations.

Technical directors/managers, ship owners, operators, naval architects and port/harbor authorities from Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and the Americas are invited to join Hyde Marine on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, for “Guide to Ballast Water Retrofits,” which will address common misconceptions about the time required for a retrofit project, as well as help attendees to better understand the challenges they might face as the industry works to address the growing influx of retrofit orders and installations.

For attendee convenience, the free, one-hour webinar will be offered in two different sessions at specific times. Attendees are invited to select either Session 1 or 2:

Session 1:    9 a.m. GMT+1

Session 2:    2 p.m. EDT

                 12 p.m. Arabian time

                 7 p.m. GMT+1

                 4 p.m. China time

                 11 a.m. PDT

                 5 p.m. Japan time

Key takeaways for attendees will include:

•  Retrofit timeline from selection to commissioning

•  Key milestones for successful retrofits

•  Installation options

•  Challenges gathered from installation experience

•  A Case Study on in-service retrofits

The webinar will be led by Hyde Marine’s product manager, Mark Riggio. Hyde Marine is one of the maritime industry’s most experienced retrofit provider of ballast water treatment systems with more than 40 retrofit projects.

Visit the Hyde Marine website to register for the webinar.

In 2004, the IMO adopted the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWMC), which requires ships to conduct a ballast water exchange or to meet concentration-based ballast water discharge standards at ports with ballast tanks 99.99% free of living organisms and pathogens.

The enforcement of the USCG’s final ballast water regulation, which began in December 2013, along with the pending ratification of the IMO BWM Convention, places ship owners on a strict timeline to install proven BWT technology to bring their vessels into compliance.

The Hyde GUARDIAN® Ballast Water Treatment System was one of the first to receive IMO Type Approval in April 2009 and Hyde Marine’s recent achievement as one of the first to earn Alternate Management System (AMS) approval from the United States Coast Guard, uniquely positions the company as the leader in providing the maritime market with the information it needs regarding ballast water treatment compliance.

AMS approval is an interim measure that allows the Hyde GUARDIAN BWTS to be used on vessels for five years after the vessel is required to comply with the USCG Ballast Water Discharge Standards.

In addition to the June 10 webinar, Hyde Marine’s 2014 webinar series will also include, “Lessons Learned: Ballast Water Installations,” among other topics.
