12 Ships in Hamburg for 825th Celebration

The Port of Hamburg celebrated its 825th anniversary with 12 cruise ships and 37,000 cruise passengers over the weekend of May 9 – 11. The three-day event also attracted an estimated one million visitors who came to see the ships up close.

According to the port, the first day of the anniversary started with a total five cruise calls by the AIDAluna, Delphin, Deutschland, MSC Magnifica and L’Austral, which made its maiden call in Hamburg.

As a special event for guests onboard, the MSC Magnifica made a short cruise around the harbour where she was christened in 2010.

On the second day, the Hamburg Cruise Center reached his peak point with seven cruise ships and 16,000 embarking and disembarking passenger as well as transit passengers for the AIDAsol, AIDAstella, Albatros, Artania, Deutschland, Hamburg and Mein Schiff 1.

During the day, the Deutschland offered a harbour cruise for its guests, while the Hamburg, which was rechristened here in 2012, sailed a one night party cruise on the Elbe.

On the third day, callers included the Queen Elizabeth, returning from a world cruise. And with the Deutschland, Hamburg, and MSC Magnifica, four big ships were docked simultaneously.

AIDA Cruises was the main sponsor of the event and was represented with three ships.
