Viking Line is offering a limited selection of so-called recreated beer from 1840s.
According to the Baltic cruise ferry operator, in the summer of 2010, five bottles of beer from the 1840s were discovered in an old shipwreck in the Aaland archipelago of Finland. The VTT Technical Research Center of Finland analyzed the beer with the goal of recreating and producing the original product.
The Aaland-based Stallhagen craft brewery will produce the beer, but only in 2,000 numbered bottles, which will be offered by Viking. The first bottle will be auctioned on the company’s Facebook page. The auction will run from April 1 to Sept. 1, 2014. In addition, a beer cruise will be featured on the Sept. 20 sailing.
