2013: Orient Queen to Become Louis Aura, Deploy to South America

2014 Status: Did not happen, as the Orient Queen II took its place, chartered from Abou Mehri.

2013: New Cruise Line Alert: A new group has (supposedly) purchased a medium-sized cruise vessel with the intent of exploring a very new market. Others have tried, no one has succeeded.

2014 Status: An Indian cruise-start up was reported in July, and the ex-MSC Melody is currently in the region, awaiting her future as a floating hotel.

2013: Shorepower: Another port that is not on the West Coast is very close to the final sign off on a cold-ironing deal.

2014 Status: Since March 2013, Halifax, Quebec, Montreal and Charleston have all announced shorepower plans.

2013: Apartment Ships: Is another one finally close to being real? Or is it just another dream?

2014 Status: No news since, despite persistent rumors the Utopia is nearing a contract.

2013: Scrubbers: Cruise lines may be lining up to purchase scrubbers, at least according to major repair shipyards which are suddenly rushing to become experts on the installation of the exhaust-cleaning technology as the North American Emissions Control Area looms for 2015.

2014 Status: Norwegian Cruise Line has said it will purchase scrubbers for a number of ships, and Carnival Corporation noted last summer it is rolling out the technology as well.

2013: Ship Order: Has a luxury cruise line finally placed a much rumored ship order?

2014 Status: Regent and Seabourn have ordered newbuilds for delivery in 2016.

2013: Global Perception: For an industry facing perception problems from the mainstream media, it seems strange to ban the media from an upcoming safety exercise.

2014 Status: The industry did not change their position as media members were excluded from the Black Swan mass rescue operation in the Bahamas last April.

2013: Viking Ocean Cruises: With four ship orders in at Fincantieri and two options, Viking Ocean Cruises could deliver a first ship as soon as March 2015 according to multiple suppliers with knowledge of the timeline.

2014 Status: The first Viking Ocean ship will be delivered in Spring 2015.
