Members of the United Steelworkers (USW) will hold a rally Tuesday at the headquarters of Carnival Corporation.

The USW said it is intensifying its effort to end a three-month strike at Crown Holdings Inc. in Canada by holding a rally at the headquarters of Carnival Corporation in Doral, Fla. The USW is protesting the role of Carnival CEO Arnold Donald, who is also a Crown Holdings director.

“U.S.-based Crown Holdings provoked a strike by USW members at its Toronto manufacturing plant in early September by demanding a permanent lower-wage scale for new hires. Tomorrow’s rally is part of the USW’s expanded campaign focusing on all of the packaging giant’s directors, including Mr. Donald,” said a statement from USW.

“The USW believes that by supporting Crown Holdings in its forced strike, Arnold Donald is undermining Carnival’s business model that relies on good wages and employer-paid leave to fill Carnival’s ships. At tomorrow’s rally, protesters will be wearing bright t-shirts asking Mr. Donald whether the middle class should be able to take cruises, and calling on him to act to end the Crown Holdings strike and ensure employees get a fair deal.”

“Donald’s role in the Crown strike is bringing unwanted attention to Carnival at a time when the company is recovering from numerous setbacks and blows to its image due to the Costa Concordia disaster and other major incidents of cruise ships malfunctioning at sea, stranded passengers and on-board fatalities.”
