Announcing its 175th anniversary, Riegel – Mount Vernon Mills, a linen supplier to the hospitality and cruise industries, can trace its history to when the first mill began operating in 1838 in South Carolina.
It was known as the Pendelton Manufacturing Co.It would later be known as it is today as the LaFrance plant. LaFrance produces home furnishings and products for the automotive industry in the same location (but a newer facility). La France would eventually fall under the Riegel Textile Corp. and later Mt. Vernon Mills leadership. It now stands as one of the six divisions in the Mount Vernon family.
At one time, Riegel was a stand-alone company that was later acquired by Mt. Vernon Mills Inc. Today, the name lives on both as a brand and as the name of a division of the company.
The Riegel logo is on the hangtag of all of the tablecloths, sheets, terry and surgical towels produced for textile rental, healthcare, retail and hospitality markets. In addition to its customers in the linen supply market, Riegel products also serve as brand standards in hotel chains, such as Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Starwood, the Fairmont and Four Seasons brands.
Riegel is also the name used for Mt. Vernon’s Consumer Products Division—one of six divisions that fall under the Mount Vernon umbrella.
In a prepared statement, Riegel said its name synonymous with quality in the hospitality, cruise line, rental linen, and healthcare markets. “Renowned for its superior level of customer service and product customization capabilities, Riegel offers quality products at competitive prices. A one-stop textile shop, Riegel continues to expand its product offering for a worry-free experience for customers.”
