Gijon – Finding a Niche

The Port of Gijón is seeking to become a turn-around point for Mediterranean cruises as well as trans-Atlantic crossings.  The port’s recent expansion also allows it to accommodate larger vessels.

In the first five months of the year, Gijón received 2,807 cruise passengers and 1,025 crew members. The Vision of the Seas called on May 1, docking at the North Dock of the expanded area.  She will be the second largest ship to call this year, only eclipsed by Celebrity’s Reflection slated to call October 16. Other callers this year include the Seabourn Pride and the Bremen.
