Happy Cruises Shuts Down?

The Happy Gemini (photo: Grant Butler)Spanish-based Happy Cruises has reportedly shut down operations, according to sources familiar with the matter, over this past weekend.

After expanding the fleet from two to three ships this year, company executives told Cruise Industry News they were targeting carrying 100,000 passengers, with programs in the Mediterranean, Baltic and Caribbean on three chartered cruise ships – Ocean Pearl, Gemini, and Happy Dolphin.

The Ocean Pearl and Gemini are chartered from ISP, while the Happy Dolphin is owned by Restise Management.

The line even added the latest ship, the Happy Dolphin, on short notice, in March, for a summer program in the Baltic.

The cruise line did not immediately return requests for comments by Cruise Industry News.

It is unclear how future bookings are affected or if/when operations will resume.
