The impacts of predicted climate change in the San Diego region and how the Port will begin preparing for them will be discussed Thursday, June 9, 2011, at a community meeting held by the Port of San Diego.

The meeting is open to the public, and will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Port Administration Building’s Training Room, 3165 Pacific Highway, in San Diego (map).

Nicola Hedge of the San Diego Foundation will discuss the predicted impacts of climate change to the San Diego region.

At the meeting, port staff will discuss development of a plan, which is being prepared to address climate change and potential impacts. The plan will outline ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (gases that contribute to a changing climate) and ways to adapt to anticipated changes, such as sea level rise.

The port’s climate change plan will be a critical tool for future planning and development along the shores of San Diego Bay —state tidelands that are administered by the Port of San Diego. The meeting will provide background information and give the community an opportunity to share their input with the Port.
