In Grenada, Edwin Frank, a spokesperson for the tourism board, said that traffic was up, with a projected 371,478 passengers for the current season and six new ships.
Plans are in review to build berthing space to accommodate the “world’s largest cruise liners.”
“The Grenada Government is currently reviewing the said proposal from Zublin Grenada Limited which also includes the construction of a hotel and casino, as well as several other upgrades that will change the appearance of the town of St. George,” explained Frank.
“The considered opinion is that the successful implementation of such a huge project will mean that in order for it to be profitable and sustainable the developers must have a vision to effectively promote the growth and expansion of the cruise ship industry for Grenada.”
Frank said it was important to augment product develop initiatives.
He added that beach cleaners and other personnel had been trained to increase their level of understanding of the tourism industry; including the important role they play in providing positive experiences to beach goers.
“The Ministry of Tourism organized a clean up campaign on Grand Anse Beach that targeted the removal of debris and vegetation,” Frank noted.
