TUI Celebrates 50th Wedding at Sea

TUI Cruises celebrated its 50th wedding ceremony aboard Mein Schiff 1 on Dec. 29. Captain Kjell Holm conducted the ceremony for Miriam and Marcus Mersich from Burgenland, Austria.  They celebrated with live music, a champagne reception and wedding cake in the ceremoniously decorated X-Lounge on deck 12. “It was perfect with my beautiful bride looking onto the sea and the festive atmosphere,” said Mersich in a prepared statement.

His wife added: “We could think of nothing better than to get married at sea.”

The captain is authorized to marry couples in international waters through a special arrangement in Maltese law, which applies to ships sailing under the flag of Malta. The marriages are legally valid and recognized in the home country, according to TUI

A wedding-at-sea must be arranged at least twelve weeks in advance. The cost is 1,090 euro. Special packages, including receptions and live music, as well professional make-up or photo shoots are additional.
