Klaipeda Reports Strong Season

News shore excursions have been driving more cruise calls in Klaipeda, Lithuania, according to a press release from the port authority. Altogether 35,201 passengers have visited in 2010. Among the new excursions this year is a tour to Kaliningrad (a piece of Russian territory between Poland and Lithuania).

Construction of a new passenger terminal also got underway this year and is expected to help accommodate more ships and passengers when completed for the 2012 season. The new facility will be long enough to handle three ships up to 925 feet each at the same time, with drafts up to 33 feet.
