Cruise West Shuts Down

Cruise West has ceased operations after selling the Spirit of Oceanus to Danish Investors last week. The company suspended its world cruise on the Spirit Oceanus just two weeks ago, as first reported by Cruise Industry News,  and had ceased taking new bookings. The niche-line will operate one last Danube cruise, departing September 22.

In a released statement the company said that they had aggressively pursued a number of options with interested parties to maintain operations, including investment, selling assets and selling the company. At one point it was rumored Cruise West would sell the Spirit of Oceanus to raise capital, and then lease it back from the new owners.

“I have never given up hope that we might be able to find a way to survive by working with the various interested parties. I am absolutely heartbroken that this family legacy has come to an end,” commented Dick West, chairman and managing director.
