Amsterdam Names New Chairman

Amsterdam Cruise Port (ACP) has named Hans Gerson chairman. He assumed his position at the beginning of August, succeeding Peter Swelheim. Gerson is the former director of the Port of Amsterdam and is presently director of a real estate development firm. He has also served in the city council of Amsterdam. As port director, however, he developed strong bonds with the sea and river cruise vessels that called in Amsterdam, according to the ACP.  He also named a cruise manager for the port.

At press time, Amsterdam was also celebrating its SAIL event on and around the IJ river. SAIL, held every five years, attracts tall ships, naval vessels and modern yachts, in addition to a following of hundreds of smaller boats.

Earlier this summer, the riverboat Switzerland made her maiden call in Amsterdam.
