Orion Expedition Cruises Enhances 2010 Kimberley Expeditions

Orion Expedition Cruises, Australia’s only international-standard, five-star expedition cruise line, is enhancing its expedition itineraries to Australia’s rugged Kimberley region from May – September 2010. With this development, and together with unparalleled service standards, Orion boasts the most exclusive Kimberley experience in the Southern Hemisphere.

The enhancements come as a result of an amendment to Australian government regulations for cruise ships in the Kimberley, a remote region in Western Australia consisting of steep-sided mountain ranges and several patches of rainforest.  Orion Expedition Cruises has adhered to the updated government regulations by adding new excursions for guests at no extra cost.

Orion’s 11-night expedition to the Kimberley region sails from Broome, venturing to the Lacepede Islands, Montgomery Reef, and King George River. Enhancements to this itinerary include the following:

• A Visit to the Port of Wyndham – Guests receive the opportunity to visit the oldest town in the Kimberley region, established in 1885 as a result of a gold rush in Halls Creek, and Kununurra, located in the heart of East Kimberley, with sites including the Ord River and Lake Argyle.

• Complimentary Bungle Bungle “Flight-Seeing” – The Bungle Bungle Range comprises a part of the breathtaking Purnululu National Park, a World Heritage Site and natural wonder seen firsthand by only a privileged few. Brought to the world’s attention only 25 years ago, the range – famous for its visually-striking sandstone domes – is best experienced by air, and is a short flight from Wyndham or Kununurra. Orion Expedition Cruises will be the only cruise operator in the region to offer this amazing “flight-seeing” experience as part of its enhanced Kimberley voyages, at no extra cost.

• One-Night Complimentary Accommodations – As an added bonus, Orion will provide overnight accommodations in one of Broome’s finest hotels before or after the 10-night voyage. Including breakfast and transfers, this additional night allows guests to experience an 11-night Kimberley adventure for the cost of a usual 10-night expedition.

Operationally, Orion will leave Australian waters to comply with international voyage requirements – this will provide guests onboard with a relaxing and enjoyable day at sea to enjoy the premium five-star comforts and facilities onboard Orion Expedition Cruises.
