Ensenada Ready to Release Public Bid for Marina Development

The Port of Ensenada Administration Office will publish next April 16, on Mexico’s Official Gazette, and on their webpage (www.puertoensenada.com.mx), the Public Bid API/ENSE/MALECÓN/01/09 to award, to private investment, a 30 year contract, with 15 year extension, to develop, build and operate a marina with commercial and recreational development, in a total surface of 91,367 m2, were 9,000 m2 is land and 82,367 m2 is water, in the Port of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.

The Project consists in 150 slip marina, as minimum, that will include services as vessel maintenance and on-dock repairs, potable water, fuel dock, dock power & lighting, waste and hazardous materials recollection, and yacht club facilities with restrooms, showers, laundry, internet & communications, among others.

The commercial and recreational development must observe 10% of total surface, as minimum, and allocate diverse commercial and retail spaces, food and drink areas, as well, public areas for culture and arts development, and, open to public, boardwalks, green areas, restrooms, and kid’s play areas.

The Project site is located inside the Port Harbor, and it’s surrounded at North, by Plaza Ventana al Mar and Baja Naval boatyard, at South, by non developed lots, currently under process to become Port property, with potential for Project expansion, at East, by Calle de la Marina and Blvd. Lazaro Cardenas, and another lot under process to become Port property, and, at West, by Port navigational areas.

The marina with commercial and recreational development represents an estimated investment of $10 million dollars, with significant economic impact to the city, representing annual sales close to $4 million dollars, and generating more than 200 direct employments, enhancing Ensenada as an international destination for nautical tourism.

At the same time, the Project will foster Port-City relationship, by expanding current recreational areas on the waterfront, and generating attractions for visitors and local residents.

Since the last quarter of 2008, the Project has being promoted in California, Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta and other cities, and thru the community of marina operators. Thus, at present time, the Project has interest by 2 marina operators in South California, 1 marina operator in Spain, and 2 Mexican marina operators, that will participate in the bidding process that starts next April 16, with the official publication and sale of the bid terms, until April 30, thru September 3rd, with the announcement of the winner, in order to award the lease contract.
