The Port of La Spezia expects 50,000 cruise passengers in 2009 – the same as last year – but by 2010, that number is slated to climb as high as 80,000, Ana Karina Santini, marketing manager, told Cruise Industry News. This is mainly due to the Disney Magic making calls on her 10- and 11-night sailings out of Barcelona. In addition, a waterfront project has been awarded for the Northern Italian port, which will include a passenger terminal, “to be built in the near future,” Santini said, “but the project is subjected to the approval of local authorities.”
