Caribbean Tourism Org. Seeks New Secretary General and CEO

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (www.onecaribbean.org) has begun the search for a new Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer to lead the regional tourism development agency.

The organization is seeking applicants for the position which is currently held on an interim basis by Hugh Riley. Riley’s appointment was necessitated by the sudden passing of Interim Secretary General Arley Sobers last August. Sobers assumed the position at the beginning of July 2008 when Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace vacated the position to return home to become Minister of Tourism & Aviation of The Bahamas.

Based in Bridgetown, Barbados, with offices in New York and London, the CTO is regarded as one of the world’s leading tourism organizations, representing the interests of 33 member countries in the Caribbean.

The role of the Secretary General continues to evolve as information and communications technologies have transformed the tourism landscape, and member states look to the organization for guidance in these areas of development. The qualified candidate must have demonstrated management of such diverse departments as marketing, sustainable development, research and training as well as have familiarity with the technologies affecting all branches of the tourism sector. The candidate will also serve as the principle spokesperson for Caribbean tourism in regional and international forums and will lead the organization in the quest for and management of funds from international entities that might be involved in the disbursement of development funds.

In many of its initiatives, the organization will be allied with its private sector partners in developing and executing programs. Most of the work of the CTO is conducted in English but as a multilingual organization, a second language is an asset. The Secretary General reports to the Chairman of the Executive Committee on a day-to-day basis, but is officially engaged by the Council of Ministers & Commissioners. There is considerable travel involved in this position, which is based at the CTO Headquarters in Barbados.

All applicants must submit their curriculum vitae with references by February 6, 2009 to:
