Montserrat: A New Port of Call

In addition to seeing Montserrat’s scenic coastline and breathtaking views of the Soufrière Hills Volcano, Ondeck Sailing will be offering travelers a new aquatic adventure on the open seas. Beginning January 25, 2009, the Antigua based tour operator will provide both experienced and novice sailors the chance to experience some of the region’s more unique nations.

The cruise is designed to offer adventure enthusiasts an opportunity to sail to destinations with extraordinary sites and activities indigenous to each island. The islands on the route were chosen specifically for their unique outdoor excursions. For seven days, passengers will experience everything from trekking in the rainforest with experienced guides to horseback riding, diving and snorkeling in pristine waters. Adventure enthusiasts will depart St. Maarten on a journey to St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Barbuda, Saba and Anguilla before returning to St. Maarten.

On day two, visiting the island of Montserrat will provide passengers with the opportunity to view the Soufrière Hills Volcano at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (, go horseback riding with Zekie’s Horseback Riding Tours, the island’s only riding facility and hike through the island’s lush tropical rainforest, where the wondrous sights and sounds of the island’s 33 species of birds and other local wildlife are only a few steps away.

Additionally, the destination’s two underwater tour operators Scuba Montserrat( and Green Monkey Dive Shop (, will help sea adventurers explore and discover Montserrat’s 13 miles of coastline. An area that is home to a variety of marine life including everything from spiny lobsters, stony ledges and copper sweepers to green turtles, colorful reef fish, dolphins and nurse sharks.
