Grand Cayman Avoids Hurricane Damage

Grand Cayman emerged from Hurricane Paloma’s wake with little damage, island sources said. Sister islands Cayman Brac and Little Cayman were not so lucky.

The cruise port of Georgetown suffered little damage from the storm, which reached Category 4 status over the weekend as it bore down on the Caymans and Cuba. The smaller islands, however, received widespread damage, an island resident told Cruise Industry News. News reports from the islands say many roofs were torn off, but there were no deaths from the storm.

Grand Cayman’s airport reopened the day after the hurricane, which passed 30 miles to the east of the island.
