Is NCL planning on only one F3 ship?
While in a building cost dispute with the yard over the first F3 ship, NCL’s Website states that “NCL is in the midst of a fleet renewal program which, by the end of 20 I 0, will add one new ship to its fleet with approximately 4,200 berths.”
NCL has two F3 ships under contract, with the first slated to enter service in March 20 IO and the second in October 20 l 0.
The first ship is tied up in a dispute. However, it is unlikely that the yard can sell the hull to another buyer without considerable added change costs, depending on how far along the construction is with NCL’s unique freestyle concept. The original order also included an option for a third F3 which has since been dropped.
If it turns out that NCL will only receive one F3 ship, the brand’s growth trajectory will change significantly as Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises and MSC Cruises continue to build.
