Insignia Delayed

Oceania Cruises has pushed back the launch of its second ship, the 684-passenger Insignia, until April 10, 2004 as a result of “severe and continuing effects of the Iraqi War and its impact on American travel to Europe th.is year.” The original launch date was Oct. 4, and the ship’s scheduled European and South American cruises for th.is fall and winter have been cancelled. Oceania President Frank Del Rio had previously told Cruise Industry News that the charter arrangement with shipowner CruiseInvest allowed for the delayed delivery of the Insignia if conditions warranted; at that time, he had also noted that contingency plans existed for the redeployment of the Regatta, if necessary.
