European Market Pullback

A second ship has been pulled from Europe next summer. Following Celebrity Cruises’ decision to keep the Century in the Canbbean, Holland America Line (HAL) has opted to cancel the summer 2003 European itineraries of the 793-passenger Prinsendam and bring the ship to Alaska instead. According to David Giersdorf, HAL senior vice president, marketing and sales, “Given our overall capacity in Europe for 2003 – including 11 sailings on our new 1,848-passenger Oosterdam – combined with strong demand for more HAL sailings from California and our leadership position in Alaska, this is a very positive move.”
