According to a survey of the major North American cruise ports, Cruise Industry News estimates industrywide passenger growth for the first six to nine months of 1990 at about three percent over the same period in 1989.

San Juan and Vancouver showed the largest increases with 13.5 percent and 16.5 percent respectively over 1989. Port Lauderdale was up about nine percent, while Miami showed a decrease in passenger traffic of about 10 percent which a spokesman attributed to the redeployment of one-day ships. Los Angeles showed a decrease of eight percent compared to 1989.

If no allowances were granted for ships that were taken out of service, overall passenger traffic, including one-day cruises, for the first six to nine months of 1990 would be down 1.2 percent compared to the same period of in 1989.
