Windstar Moving Closer to Main-Stream

Five-year old Windstar Sail Cruises is merging closer to the conventional main-line cruise operator by dropping the world “Sail” from its name, becoming Windstar Cruises, and adding a new tag line, “A Holland America Line Company.”

In a prepared statement, David Giersdorf, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, said that “the dimension of sailing is an element that makes the Windstar cruise experience distinct – something obvious from one look at our ships. We felt the word ‘sail’ was redundant.”

In another move that Giersdorf said was upgrading the Windstar service package, the ships’ European service personnel is being replaced by Holland America Line’s Indonesian and Filipino personnel. European chefs, dining room management and wine stewards, and Norwegian officers will remain unchanged, however.
