New Ship Updates

According to Trygve Hegnar, Chairman of Kloster Cruise, that company expects to contract two 1,200-passenger ships by the end of May for delivery at the end of 1992 and by mid-1993. Hegnar said that one ship would be deployed in the mass market in the Caribbean (Norwegian Cruise Line) while the other ship would be deployed by Royal Cruise Line.

A new cruise ship project is emerging from Sweden where sources now confirm that Ronny Nordell of DEVI has contracted five 9,000-ton, 220-passenger vessels in Italy for delivery between 1992 and 1996. A spokesperson said that the contracts were contingent upon several factors including acceptable financing in Italy. The ships, which will be operated by a new company to be set up in the United States, have been designed for the incentive travel market. The per ship cost is reported to be around $140 million.
