Caribbean Port Assoication

Fourteen Caribbean nations have agreed to form the Caribbean Cruise Port Assoication. Ferdie Martin, Director of the Cruise Ship Division of the Jamaica Tourist Board, said that the association is being formed “at the request of several islands which share common objectives, common problems, and common success in cruise tourism.”

Martin said that the member ports would exchange ideas and that the more experienced ports would share their knowledge with new ports. He also said that the organization would play an educational role in the benefits of cruise tourism and serve a liaison function vis-a-vis the cruise lines. Martin said he expected a formal organization to be in place within five to six months and that a secretariat would be established in Miami.
