CIN has learnt that Crown Cruise Line is negotiating a joint project with Marflet of Spain, whereby Crown would operate a jointly owned cruise ship, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the American cruise market.
The 10,000-ton, 400-passenger ship, built in 1967, is undergoing rebuilding and complete refurbishment, and is scheduled for delivery in September.
According to Oddmund Grundstad, President of Crown Cruise Line, the ship would operate two- and five-day cruises out of Palm Beach to the Bahamas and Mexico.
Crown Cruise Line is also building a new 530-passenger ship at the Union Navale shipyard in Valencia, Spain, intended for the upscale market. This ship is scheduled for delivery in early 1990.
The line enjoys preferential berthing rights in the Port of Palm Beach, and is presently operating the MV Viking Princess there on a variety of one-day cruises.
Crown Cruise Line is an affiliate company of the Grundstad Shipping Group of Boca Raton, which also owns and manages a fleet of eight tankers and three yacht cruisers.
