New Ships to Double Sitmar Capacity

Sitmar Cruises confirmed that it will build two 62,500-ton, 1,400 passenger ships, doubling its capacity. The ships will be built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in France at $153 million each. The first ship is expected to enter service in the fourth quarter of 1988 and the other will be completed one year later. No deployment plans have yet been made, but a spokesperson for the line said the ships will most likely operate in the “traditional” destinations – the Caribbean, Mexico, tr ans Canal and Alaska.
