The financing for the S/S United States is in place, contracts with the shipyards have been signed, and the company is proceeding full-steam ahead according to John Cox, United States Cruises senior vice president and captain of its first ship.
Cox reported that the United States will arrive at the Alabama Drydock & Shipping Yard for refurbishment sometime in September or October, 1985, and will return to the HOW yard in Hamburg for refitting in April/May.
Scheduled to begin operations in September, 1987, the United States will sail weekly seven-day cruises between Los Angeles and Hawaii, and San Francisco and Honolulu.
