River Expeditions, founded by expedition leader Jan Bryde, has announced a long-term vessel charter agreement ahead of its planned European debut in early 2028.
The company has signed a long-term agreement with Crucemundo Shipping AG for the River Silence, a renovated ship to be renamed the River Expedition and configured to accommodate 160 guests.
The vessel’s twin-cruiser design separates the propulsion system from the passenger accommodation, reducing noise and vibration to ensure a quieter, more comfortable journey.
The first journeys are planned along the Rhine, Main and Danube, with operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2028.
The new river cruise brand said that it is “bringing the philosophy and expertise of expedition travel to Europe’s waterways, creating journeys shaped by curiosity, cultural understanding and a closer connection with the places visited.”
Bryde said: “After more than 30 years exploring some of the world’s most remote places, I’ve come to believe that exploration is a mindset, not a destination.”
“Europe’s rivers offer remarkable opportunities to look beyond the familiar. With the team we’ve brought together, we’re creating journeys that invite travelers to explore more and connect deeper.”
The company said in a press release that it offers the following:
- The expedition difference: an integrated experience with specialist knowledge, cultural immersion, nature and active exploration, both onboard and ashore
- Expert-led discovery, with 10 expedition professionals on every journey providing interpretation and firsthand insight
- Carefully curated encounters with local communities and opportunities for access to selected locations, offering a closer understanding of the people, traditions and stories that shape each region
- Wildlife observation, birdwatching, guided hikes, kayaking and e-bike adventures offer different ways to experience the landscape, complemented by seasonal activities where conditions allow, and
- Purpose-adapted facilities and thoughtfully selected expedition essentials enhance the guest experience.
Onboard highlights include .10 double kayaks, e-bikes and specialist seasonal gear.
Experienced expedition leaders Ida Olsson and Ryan Hope-Inglis will also play key roles in developing and delivering the program.
