Virgin Voyages confirmed that the current cruise of the Brilliant Lady will follow a different itinerary than originally scheduled.
After departing from Los Angeles on October 17, 2026, the vessel was set to operate a seven-night cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
In a statement published last week, the company had warned guests before sailing that planned ports of call could change due to adverse weather conditions.
At the time, the company said that hurricanes in the region could require the Brilliant Lady to sail north instead of heading to the Mexican Riviera.
“We’ve been closely monitoring the projected path of Hurricane Trudy, and the forecasts have varied quite a bit. We aren’t too concerned about the remnants of Hurricane Simon, but Trudy is a more complicated situation,” Virgin explained in letter issued on October 16, 2026.
“Following the guidance of the National Hurricane Center, heading south could put the ship on the stronger, more dangerous side of the storm. That’s too much of a safety risk and a gamble we’re not willing to take,” it continued.
Virgin said that the safety of guests and crew “will always be its guiding light in making these tough calls,” noting that the ship will now head to California.
“Our teams have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to put together the best possible alternative itinerary, one that keeps you safe and still gives you a great vacation.”
The Brilliant Lady will now visit San Francisco, San Diego and Ensenada before returning to Los Angeles as scheduled on October 24, 2026.
The company added that weather is out of its control and ports may be “understandably limited at such short notice.”
“We know this isn’t the itinerary you originally planned, and trust us, we were hoping to take you to the sunny shores of Cabo as well,” Virgin said.
“We also know we’re sharing these details close to embarkation, but we wanted to be as confident in the latest forecast as possible and confirm the alternative itinerary before reaching out.”
Shore excursions for cancelled ports booked through Virgin will be automatically refunded to guests’ onboard folio.
