Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is set for its largest fleet expansion to date in 2027, adding three new ships and completing its transition to an all–Super Ship fleet.
CEO Ellen Bettridge told Cruise Industry News in an interview for the 2027 European River Market Report that the evolution began with the debut of the Emilie in 2026, the company’s first newbuild since 2020.
Next year, the Audrey and the Marlene will bring “cinematic glamour” to Europe’s rivers, Bettridge said, with interiors inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich. The São Rafael will expand Uniworld’s presence on Portugal’s Douro River, one of its strongest-performing destinations.
“We’re also introducing something entirely new for the brand with the Aqua Blu, an expedition yacht operated in partnership with Aqua Expeditions. With just two sailings in 2027, these highly exclusive voyages will offer rare access to Indonesia and Singapore,” she added.
“In 2028, we’ll introduce three new ships: the Helen on the Danube, the Clara on the Rhine and the Mekong Mystique in Southeast Asia, bringing our fleet to 22 total ships,” Bettridge said. “Paired with our 2027 expansion, this represents one of the most significant periods of investment in Uniworld’s history.”
Alongside the new ships, Uniworld is launching six new itineraries across Europe and Asia and adding pre- and post-cruise land programs in cities such as Paris, Prague and Zurich. The Women-Only Cruise, which launched in 2025, is also returning in 2027.
Bettridge said what set Uniworld apart was its focus on design, storytelling and personalization.
“Each ship is a one-of-a-kind floating boutique hotel, inspired by the destinations it sails through,” she explained. “Rather than creating a standardized experience across our fleet, each ship has its own personality and sense of place, inspired by the region it sails.”
While Baby Boomers have traditionally been the core of the river cruise market, Bettridge said Uniworld was seeing strong growth among Gen X travelers.
“Gen X travelers often seek more active, hands-on experiences. So we’ve expanded our excursion offerings to include options like biking, hiking, culinary workshops and wine tastings, alongside more traditional guided tours,” she said.
Family-focused Generations Collection sailings timed around school breaks were also drawing strong interest, she added, while themed cruises built around wine, golf, music and Jewish heritage continued to expand. North America, the UK and Australia remain the company’s core markets.
