Royal Caribbean changed the itinerary of the current cruise onboard the Oasis of the Seas due to adverse weather conditions.
Sailing from Cape Liberty, the Oasis-class vessel was initially scheduled to offer a seven-night cruise to destinations in the Bahamas and Florida.
According to a statement sent to guests before departure, the planned itinerary will no longer go ahead. Instead, the ship will now sail North, docking in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for an overnight stay.
“Along with our meteorologist team, we’ve been closely monitoring inclement weather developing off the East Coast for our October 18, 2026, sailing,” Royal Caribbean said.
“The weather’s impact makes it hard to provide you with a safe and comfortable journey to Florida and the Bahamas,” the company continued.
Sailing from Royal Caribbean’s cruise terminal in Bayonne, the cruise was originally scheduled to visit Port Canaveral, Perfect Day CocoCay and Nassau before returning to the U.S. Northeast.
“After exploring all of our options, we’ve decided to sail to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, for an overnight stay instead,” Royal Caribbean explained.
In its statement, the company noted that the sailing required different documentation from guests, adding that some nationalities may need visas to visit Canada.
“We truly appreciate your understanding and flexibility regarding this unexpected change,” Royal Caribbean added.
To thank guests for their “continued loyalty and to help make up for the inconvenience,” the company offered refundable onboard credits.
According to the statement, the credit was applied for first and second guests, based on stateroom categories.
Inside and outside staterooms received $200, while balcony cabins received $300 and suites received $600. Royal Caribbean also offered an additional $100 per person for each third or more guest.
As a gesture of goodwill, the company also offered a 50 percent Future Cruise Credit to be used toward another sailing.
Any prepaid shore excursions for the cancelled ports were fully refunded as onboard credit. If unused, the amounts will be refunded to the credit card associated with passengers’ onboard accounts.
Launched in 2009 as the first ship in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class series, the Oasis of the Seas is currently wrapping up a summer scheduled in the U.S. Northeast.
In November, the vessel returns to Fort Lauderdale for a series of three- and four-night cruises to the Bahamas.
