National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has announced that renowned mountaineer and philanthropist Peter Hillary will join select Alaska and Antarctica expeditions in May and December 2027.
A returning guest of National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions, Hillary will share stories and lessons from a lifetime of exploration through dedicated onboard conversations, while becoming part of the expedition itself.
“Hillary has been a longtime friend of Lindblad, and we are delighted to welcome him back onboard,” said Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions. “His extraordinary life of exploration, and the legacy of the Hillary family, will add an incredibly meaningful dimension to these journeys.”
“The spirit of discovery is something that has shaped my life, from the mountains of the Himalayas to the polar regions,” said Hillary. “I look forward to sharing some of those experiences with guests and hearing about their own connections to, and passions for, exploration as we travel together.”
The company said in a press release that Hillary is the son of mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, who, alongside Tenzing Norgay, made the first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953.
Hillary has participated in more than 50 mountaineering expeditions, including five on Mount Everest, completed the Seven Summits and skied to the South Pole in Antarctica.
His adventures also took him on a 5,000-kilometer, 10-month high-altitude traverse of the Himalayas and an aviation expedition to the North Pole alongside his father and Neil Armstrong.
