Oceanwide Expeditions has just published its first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report.
It covers its efforts to reduce its environmental impact, with more support for science and prepares for two new expedition vessels due from 2029, the company said in a press release.
CEO Rémi Bouysset said the report gives the company a proper foundation to measure its progress and to make better informed decisions, whilst acknowledging there is still room to improve.
The report looks at all measures on the existing fleet. These include itinerary planning, engine optimization, hull maintenance and its waste heat recovery.
Hotel teams have also been working to eliminate single-use plastics, as well as cutting food and energy waste and switching to more environmentally friendly cleaning products. The company has also partnered with more local suppliers and reduced emissions in its supply chain.
In March this year, the company signed a letter of intent to build two new next-generation eco-sail expedition vessels.
These are planned to join the fleet in 2029 with better hybrid technology and energy storage systems. Oceanwide said that it wants to keep to the small-ship approach and close connection to nature that define all its expeditions.
The report also covers a reforestation project.
In 2023, Oceanwide acquired more than 1,600 hectares of degraded rainforest in the Brazilian Amazon and began a long-term restoration program that aims to restore native ecosystems, protect endangered species and create opportunities for local communities.
The project is entirely self-funded, with guests contributing through their expeditions.
