Global Ports Holding (GPH) marked the International Coastal Cleanup Day by bringing together its global network to participate in cleanup activities.
Teams comprising employees, local communities, stakeholders and cruise industry partners across GPH ports participated in coordinated activities under the “From Port to Port, It’s in Our Hands” initiative.
More than 350 volunteers and 32 partners collected approximately 11 tons of waste from beaches, shorelines and surrounding coastal areas over 30 hours of activities.
“The long-term success of our industry is closely linked to the health of our seas and the prosperity of the communities we serve. As the world’s largest cruise port operator, we have a responsibility to turn our global reach into meaningful local action,” said Mehmet Kutman, chairman & CEO of Global Ports Holding.
“‘From Port to Port, It’s in Our Hands’ demonstrates what we can achieve when our teams, communities and industry partners work towards a shared goal. I am proud of everyone who contributed their time and commitment, reinforcing that protecting our coastlines is a responsibility we share every day.”
GPH noted that the effort highlighted the role that ports, local communities and industry partners can play in supporting the protection of coastal environments.
Participants also gathered data to support marine pollution research, extending the initiative’s contribution beyond the cleanup.
GPH also intends to use the insights collected for sustainability reporting and informing future coastal protection initiatives across its network.
