Ambassador Cruise Line has announced that it has signed a contract with EnerMoves SRL to install a Shore Power connection system on the Renaissance.
EnerMoves has been selected for its approach to managing the interface between onboard systems and shore-based electricity supplies.
The company said in a press release that work on the project has already started, with the final installation and commissioning expected as part of the scheduled drydock in October-November 2027.
According to the release, shore power connection marks the latest step in Ambassador Cruise Line’s commitment to improve the environmental performance of its ships, demonstrating that the vessels can be upgraded to meet modern environmental standards without the impact of resource-intensive new-build construction projects.
Ambassador added that the ships already have advanced food-waste and sewage treatment systems and IMO Tier III exhaust-emission control (SCR) technology, enabling them to sail responsibly and reduce their environmental impact.
Ambassador said that retrofitting systems to synchronize connections and power transfer between ship and shore poses challenges for existing vessels.
A second and third contract with EnerMoves is planned for a similar shore power system aboard the Ambiance during its scheduled drydock in November-December 2027, and the next installation is planned for the Ambition in autumn 2028.
