Virgin Voyages advised guests that the upcoming cruise onboard the Brilliant Lady may see itinerary changes due to Hurricane Rachel.
Set to depart from Los Angeles on October 3, 2036, the 2,770-passenger ship is scheduled to offer a seven-night cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
“We wanted to share a full update on Hurricane Rachel, which has now strengthened from a tropical storm. It continues tracking northwest parallel to Mexico’s west coast,” the company said in a statement published on its website.
Virgin said that the cruise’s current itinerary, which features visits to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta, puts the ship near the path of the storm.
The company added that it has prepared an alternative itinerary in case of a rerouting, noting that it is working closely with weather experts to make the most informed decision.
Virgin explained that it is currently expecting to make a final decision on Oct. 1, when more about the storm’s path is known.
“It’s worth packing a few extra layers just in case, as the alternative route may include cooler temperatures,” the company added.
While Rachel’s current northwest path would affect Brilliant Lady’s planned visit to Cabo San Lucas on Oct. 5, 2026, conditions may still change.
“There’s also a real chance Rachel curves further out into the Pacific and away from us entirely,” Virgin explained.
Other than Cabo San Lucas, the Brilliant Lady is scheduled to sail to Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta on Oct. 6 and Oct. 7, 2026, respectively.
Having completed the company’s first summer season in Alaska earlier this month, the 2,770-passenger ship started a fall season on the West Coast earlier this month.
The deployment runs through late October 2026, when the 2024-built vessel is scheduled to start a repositioning voyage to the Caribbean.
